American wild sour ale created with mixed fermentation, using a strain of Lactobacillus in tandem with our Belgian yeast. The “funk" character was further enhanced by the addition of Brettanomyces while aging in previously used oak barrels.

375mL bottle procured at the brewery. 10.00. Bottled in 2016. Served in a Three Taverns snifter.
Pours a milky, opaque orange with two fingers of off-white head. A thin rail remains with no retention on either surface or glass.
Smells of wine, soured pale malt, earthy funk, apple cider vinegar and wet oak.
Tastes pleasantly tart with sour grapes, apple cider vinegar, earthy wet oak, Brett funk, pineapple rind, soured grain and vague old fruit.
Medium light, almost chalky feel with supple carbonation. Wine, oak, Brett and sour fruit skin play on the palate in the finish.
Three Taverns' second barrel aged wild ale is a great combination of tart, funk and all-out sour. Fortunatus is delicious, complex and easy to enjoy. It will be interesting to see how this one develops.
