Corked and caged 350mL bottle picked up at the brewery. Bottled 2016, released summer 2017. Served in a Three Taverns snifter. Enjoyed 9/3/17.
Pours a hazy, opaque amber with two and a quarter fingers of pale head. The froth fades to a hazy central patch and narrow collar, imparting some wide swaths of lacing.
Smells of wine barrel, Brett and pale malt. That may sound straightforward but the mixture is quite nice.
Big Brett character from the first taste. Apple, wine-drenched oak, pineapple core, old hay, slightly farmy funk, mild honey and earth. Between the Brett and wine barrel aging the layers of flavor here are delightful.
Medium feel with loose carbonation. Funky finish with elements of Brett, wine soaked oak and earthy pale malt.
Another great, seemingly gladiator inspired, wild ale from Three Taverns. Part of me wishes the wine barrel wasn't quite as prominent but it works really well. It’ll be interesting to see where further aging will take the already strong Brett.
