Crowler: Poured a pitch-black color stout with a dark brown foamy head. Aroma of residual sugar notes with some black chocolate notes and light warming alcohol notes. Taste is an intense mix of residual sugar notes with some black chocolate notes with some warming alcohol notes. Body is full with oily texture and good carbonation with some alcohol notes perceptible. Interesting beer but best shared with many friends.

From a week old Crowler

I would swear it’s a spiced stout. As in peppers. If not, it has a ton of cinnamon, which it has either way. A strong cinnamon/nutmeg spice on the nose. That spice is noticeable throughout. A marshmallow like flavor with rich vanilla sweetness stand out on top of a milk chocolate backdrop. No real hint of the alcohol. A little bit of coffee flavor as it warms, but more of a charred grain Fairly thick, but not in hard to drink way. More of a creaminess. There’s a pepper like bite from the cinnamon. A really tasty beer, but not sure I could make it through 32oz because it’s really rich.

This beer is great for what it is. The concept beers are not meant to be balanced to style, they are meant to be experimental. Most of what AC does is great. This one was a little sweet for me, but tasted like straight smores. The lactose masters strike again!

From a 32oz growler from Mark, thanks!

A: Pours silky octopus ink and syrup looking. Inch brown head with good lacing.

N: Pronounced sweetness, somewhat vague vanilla and chocolate.

T: I was expecting intense chocolate sweetness, but got Banana, Walnut and Chocolate. My drinking buddy agreed. However, half way through my pint, the Banana faded and in its' place I got Strawberry. This beer is very sweet and is definitely a dessert beer. I'm not quite sure what flavors for which AC was aiming, but if you like the zany sweet creations of Ben and Jerry's ice cream, and like dessert style stouts, seek this one out. 11.1 abv undetectable.

F: Silky smooth.

O: Even though the sweet flavors were somewhat of an unorthodox mix, I really enjoyed this beer and would love to try it on tap. Bourbon barrel aging would probably make this stellar.

Reviewed from notes. From a swing-top 32 oz. growler filled the day before consuming. Poured into an El Catador Barrel-Aged glass.

A: Essentially black and opaque. Minimal visible carbonation, and this looks thick during the pour. Forms a half-finger of tan head that fades fairly quickly. This coats the glass well.

S: Sweet aroma overall. Dark chocolate, vanilla, and caramel. A sweet candied vanilla that’s the “marshmallow” here. Dark roasted malts, and a modest coffee in the background; but there’s so much sweet Milky Way-type aromas over the top of the coffee that it stays a bit hidden. Sweet, but not quite cloying.

T: Dark chocolate, coffee and caramel. Vanilla and the sweet marshmallow flavor. Dark roasted malts, mocha and cinnamon. Then more dark chocolate and roasted malts with caramel and cinnamon again in the hang.

M: Very thick and sticky mouthfeel - Hunahpu-type stickiness. The alcohol is hidden dangerously well. Fairly low carbonation sensation, but perfectly acceptable for style.

O: I wasn't aware the Insulin Resistance had cinnamon in it, but Ben from Angry Chair was kind enough to confirm that it did. So, this was indeed the correct fill...and it was excellent. Really, really good. Huge caramel and chocolate flavors, mixing with the cinnamon bite and sweet vanilla. It's a sweet beer for sure - you’re probably not taking a growler or bottle down by yourself. But a delicious growler to share.

Pours a deep, dark brown with a mocha head. Monster coffee nose jumps out of the glass. Taste is loads of coffee with a caramel backing. Caramel tasted like the real deal, not artificial. Super thick and chewy body.

Blown away by this beer. Best way I can describe it is Bourbon County Coffee Caramel. I know it isn't barrel aged but that is the immediate comp that comes to mind for the base beer flavor, body and coffee influence.

Absolutely fantastic. Angry Chair is making world class beers and this is at the top of the heap.
