I've had a few of Angry Chair's stouts at this point... but, I'm still rarely prepared for just how cloyingly sweet they are. Funky Buddha USED TO BE my standard for sweet beers, but - Angry Chair has a bit of a monopoly on that whole "pastry" thing, in my opinion. Anyway - this was my first barrel-aged beer from Angry Chair, and I was quite thrilled about it.
Thankfully, the rum barrels used in this beer are of a much higher quality than those that Central Waters has used (whew). The rum in the nose and taste is quite clean, and the beer is thus slightly thinner but drinks like a much lighter beer. It tastes fantastic - though, again, it's incredibly sweet! It's almost bordering on too sweet. I cannot imagine drinking a bottle alone; the small 3ish ounces that I drank were quite adequate for me.
Fantastic beer. Do not drink alone!
