Thanks to Freezing_Balls for this 750ML weapon. Following the Popinski Waterboarded w/Vanilla variant expectations are tempered.
The pour is mild black with the thinnest ring of bubblies around the edges with a nose that speaks to lightless malts & rye barrels. No vanilla.
Rye Barrel Aged Popinski is the beer I was searching for. Spicy rye & boozy rye are up front & honest, both lingering long after the beer exits the mouth. Mid-palate brings heavy sweetness that’s borderline syrupy, chocolate with a finish that’s a touch earthy & exhibiting a bit of hoppy bitterness. Big, thick, bruising. I could drink a bomber of this. Probably think I was a box afterward, until I hit something & three hand bones snapped.
Far superior to the vanilla variant, which should be charged with homicide of the base beer. Lovely framing of the rye barrels & an excellent brew.
