At my lady Pamela's house; canned and chilled, 473mL in a pint glass. From their Super Duper Nifty Gift Pack at The Roundhouse Centre LCBO on Howard Ave. in nearby Windsor. Canned August 18/25. My 6th beer from the Kenora, Ontario brewery, and for 2025. Gleefully adored by Sundae the cat...

473 mL can from the LCBO; no canning date and served barely chilled. Now listed at 7% and billed as a double IPA.
Pours foggy and effervescent, its golden yellow-hued body topped with nearly two fingers of puffy, foamy white head that lasts for five minutes, give or take. Gobs of lace remain in its wake, with a wide collar and sudsy cap lasting on the surface; looks fantastic so far. Grapefruit, orange peel, pine resin and pineapple on the nose, with suggestions of floral, spicy hops and bready, grainy malts.
It's a C-hop bomb blast from the past. Piney, tea-leafy hops, grapefruit and bergamot orange flavours, backed by grainy malts and a lightly caramelized malt sweetness. Earthy, resiny bitterness asserts itself later on, with citrus pithiness, pineapple and bitter orange continuing on into a resiny aftertaste. Not exactly boozy, or even warming, but the 7% is noticeable. Medium in body, with aggressive carbonation and a frothy, soft mouthfeel; fair drinkability for a strong IPA.
Final Grade: 3.78, a B+. Nautical Disaster is likely the best Lake of the Woods pale ale I've had to date, but I still don't think it holds up that well when compared to the top tier Ontario competition. If you miss the days of C-hop dominance and old school DIPAs, then this might well be a delightful romp down memory lane for you. As for myself, I'd give this another try some day - but for the time being, I'll mostly remember it for being OK, if I remember it at all.

I got a can of this beer from The LCBO Store in Fort Frances, Ontario whilst there for my son's hockey showcase. It poured a clear golden with fizzy white head that dissipated quickly and did not leave much lace. The scent had subtle grain and subtle bitter citrus notes. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with crisp malt base with grain and hints of bitter orange presence. The mouthfeel was lighter in body with good carbonation. Overall it is a great beer.

Fortunately, we found this beer when we crossed the border. It was the best part of 6 of our 7 days hunting Muskie!

Semi clear amber pour with a frothy, fluffy white head. The head is 1 finger, long lasting, and makes great lacing.
The nose has a pleasing to me pine hop aroma.
Flavor is pine dominant. The pine starts right away and continues throughout the beer.
The body is decent. The hops linger.
I love an old school pine ipa, and this is one.

473 ml can served at cellar temperature into a pint glass. LCBO purchase for around $3.50 CDN. Canned September 30, 2019.
Appearance - Rich golden color, practically clear, topped with two and a half fingers of big fluffy white head. Good staying power and a plethora of lacing at the edges of the glass.
Smell - Loads of citrus, orange, pineapple, tangerine and some cantaloupe melon and guava for good measure. A truly tropical medley. Sweetness in there more than most brews. Great nose.
Taste - Some graininess, bits of buttery malt, lots of tropical fruits, orange and cantaloupe most prominent. Some boozy heat in there too.
Mouthfeel - Medium bodied, carbonation is modest and finish is a bit... watery. Some booziness notable in the feel, but still pretty good.
Overall - Better than I expected and Nautical Disaster stacks up relatively well with some of the best, GLB, Collective Arts etc. It's not at that level, but this brew goes a long way in bridging a big portion of that gap. Well worth a try.
