-Enjoyed on tap at brewery, Seward Alaska July 2020.
A: Dark ice tea coloring suggest some caramel malts. Is accompanied by a ¾ inch creamy froth head served in a pint glass. A light amount of visible carbonation. Glass decorative consists of a solid ring lacing. Reminds me more of an old school west coast appearance then New England style.
S: Citrus and sweet toasty malts open on the aroma. Piney and grassy offsets come along with a spicy floral hopping. There is a big caramel malt aspect here, toasted and sweet. Hop usage is second to the grain bill here. Citrusy and spicy floral from Chinook give this a bit of a zing.
T: A good bittering effect, dry grassy-pine open the flavor along with some spicy floral complimentary of the Chinook hops. Grapefruit zest, dry citrus along with a big caramel malt bite. Some pine and earthy leaf’s are finished off by a small bit of dry lemon citrus. The flavor leans more towards the dry hopping aspect rather the juicy fresh approach.
M: Mouthful was big and lush from the specialty malt base. Dry, grainy malt, with dry grassy hop support gives a generally good coating on the tongue for bitterness effect.
O: Overall the nose was juicy, fresh, with lots of caramel malting. The flavor leaned more towards the dry hopped side, lemon, grapefruit and citrusy zest that balanced more for drinkability then shock value. Old school malt profile balances the hop usage, with a dry and bittering finish. Personally this is more or a standard w.c. ipa then New England style in terms of appearance, aroma, and mouthful.
