Draft, nonic pint
A – Medium brown and very clear, appears to be very bubbly/carbonated. An inch or so of off-white head with moderate retention.
S – Mostly crisp, very clean. A bit of toffee and light chocolate, both mild, with a light rye spice note. Slightly floral.
T – Bready malt, with a bit of toast or lightly baked crust, plus light caramel and a touch of chocolate. Very mild rye spice, with floral, mildly herbal hop notes.
M – This is where the beer excels. High carbonation with a sudsy but brisk feel and finish. Medium body, very smooth with just that light bite from the rye. Almost no real sweetness despite the impression of sweet flavors. The bitterness is also very restrained. Ultimate drinkability here.
O – This is my first roggenbier, so I can’t speak for tradition, but I’m very pleased. Enough complexity of flavor to keep me coming back, with a fantastic, refreshing mouthfeel. Easy to overlook, but I’m glad I didn’t.
