First official BA review! I have high hopes for this particular beer, so it inspired me to begin writing reviews, instead of just lurking in the shadows. Here we go..
Picked up this 650ml bottle at Bishop's Cellar on Dec 4th. Pleasantly surprised to see it there.
Appearance: Poured into an oversized wine glass at approximately 45deg C. Pours a very hazy, amber colour, darker than what you would expect for a Saison. Good thick head, average retention.
Nose: A strong, sweet, fruity aroma hits you immediately. Pear, Banana, perhaps even Peach. Herbal notes throughout, yeasty, and slightly boozy.
Taste: Not what I was expecting at all, after the initial aroma. Slightly fruity of course, but the clove and an underlying smoky flavor balance this brew very well. There is also an earthy-spiciness to this beer which I can't really describe. Delicious.
Mouthfeel: This is what makes this beer standout. Medium bodied. Carbonation is noticed immediately, but is pleasant. After the initial feel of carbonation, the beer is quite dry, almost like a chardonnay of sorts. The hops are certainly noticed, but a bitterness that isn't out of place. Different to say the least, but incredibly enjoyable.
Overall: This is by far Boxing Rock's best effort, and perhaps one of the better Maritime brews I've had in a long time.. An interestingly bold take on the style, but very well done.

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
