Son Of Brett is part of a solera project in which the barrels never are completely emptied. Part of Son Of Brett is 4 years old and others are only 1 year. This blend creates a super complex beer that was primarily fermented with multiple different Brett yeast strains. This blend of yeast provides our brew an blend of unique, funky, earthy and complex characteristics. All of this is complemented with the wine barrel undertones.

Poured from a bottle into a tulip. Pours deep red with a fluffy off white head. Smells of sour grapes and other fruit notes. Tastes of sour grapes and berries, nice combination. Beer is medium bodied yet easy drinking, good carbonation. Overall, a very good beer.

Tawny russet tone with a fluffy dollop of tan foam, some surface skim initially that fades to a glassy still surface.
Fresh oak and funky Bretty cheese rind aromas, some mild dried fruit, complex as advertised. Clever blend of 4 year old and younger beer to achieve this. 4 year barrel stock that old is a rare find anywhere, but especially stateside.
Taste is similarly complex, funky and vinous. Tart fruity red merlot grapes, pepper, oak, cheese rind lingers. Wispy traces of forest floor, dry leaves and mushroom. Trace clover honey. The wine barrel is certainly a defining feature, and balances the funkiness of the Brett a bit. It becomes pleasantly bone dry in the finish.
Medium bodied, carb level is subdued but carries it along. An angular and multi-faceted wild ale, something to sit with and contemplate as it evolves. This was a lucky find at Discount, and gives me a reason to seek out more BA stuff from Ahnapee. Out of the 75 Brett Beers on BA i've had, this one ranks up there as one of the most unique and memorable.
