Bought two cans from Beer Drop and, because this is interesting, I won't give away either for Christmas to my nephews.
However I must comment that this Figgy Noir does not show the characteristics of Bourbone barrel-aging. Nor does UnTappd have a BBA rendition. So, perhaps remove that BBA reference.... if anyone is monitoring this review.
Figgy Noir strength is its imagination (or that of its brewers.) The brew's weakness is the yeast needs to impart more life. Brewing imagination is good and piling in the kitchen of North Africa into an amber brew is imaginative (Algerian curry, figs and palm sugar, that last replacing brewers sugar.) But what those unusual ingredients do to a normal de Garde yeast... well it is anyone's guess. So brewer's imagination here probably should have been stifled... certainly leave out the palm sugar.
I like Diebolt. (That's why a give a not-so-good garde such good Overall Hugs.) This is my fifth de Garde from Diebolt. I like how they imaginatively created this Ex-Pat Series which allows them to use the diverse flavors of the French Empire. I'm also wondering what happened to this Series since I see no evidence on their website.... which also indicates no taproom seating... which makes me ask: Is Diebolt OK? I hope so. Keeping the Biere de Garde alive is work enough. Add in Covid and Diebolt has more work than I would want. A Votre Sante' !
12/6/21 Had the second can and edited the above review. Same verdict: the biere de Garde is a style to reinvent slowly because it is supposed to make the food better... and that doesn't change as fast as beer-dom. Counting @ UnTappd.

This had the potential to be really good and/or really weird, but didn't really hit either mark. I expected a very unusual flavor based on the contents, but none of those flavors or aromas really stood out at all. Maybe aging it longer would be the way to go, I'm not sure.

Labeled an Algerian Biere de Garde and part of the "French Expat Series."
Pours a dark orange with a fast fading white head. Nose of light tangerines and subtle yeast.
Mouth feel is of very light carbonation and medium bodied.
Flavors are burnt orange and tangerine with a bitter orange rind character and finish.
Not really true to style in my experience but not bad. Would not make a special effort to try again.
