i like the idea of coffee saison, and i think this path hasnt really been explored all that deeply, so i was highly appreciative of this, on tap at highland tap and burger. its got a hint of brown to the pale orangey beer, hazy and heady, looks great. the nose is nice, quite subtle on the coffee bit the bitter earthiness and acidity really work with the wheat base and the saison yeast strain, which i suppose is as belgian as anything else in this brew, warmer fermented and full of spiciness. the flavor is just like the nose with the coffee way in the background. there is a sweetness that pulls it out a bit, but its mellow for sure. i like how its an accent flavor, almost there to bring the best out of the saison, rather than lead the flavor parade. love the way it mellows in the finish, and all the carbonation is cool in a coffee beer. this is clever and well made, and while some will critique it on the grounds of being so mild on the coffee front, i like the way its built to be reserved. these guys are doing some great things.
