Until May 2015, Lafayette Brett was brewed with White Labs WLP 644. Given that 644 was reclassified as wild Saccharomyces instead of Brettanomyces, it seemed a bit disingenuous to keep calling it Lafayette Brett if we kept using that yeast. The next several batches of Lafayette Brett will be brewed with various Brett strains to dial in the specific fruity Brett profile we are looking for. Bottles from each batch will be labeled with the specific Brett strain(s) used.

all the wild ales coming from odd13 have been quite enjoyable, and definitely different from the masses. this is an amber tinted one, hazy and pretty viscous for what it is. the nose is really bretty, but a different mix of stains it must be, its so funk, its almost stinky, dry, bodily or something. my girlfriend though it smelled like a can of fruit cocktail, i thought it was far weirder, but i see where she's coming from, some notes of canned pear in here. the flavor is great, acidic dry red malt on the front end and all the brett in the finish. its pretty different in brett profile in the finish, tart and even a little lactic acidity built up here. better hopped than many, its got a kick of zesty citrus as it finishes. dry as anything, surprisingly fuller bodied, almost slimy texture to it. a really weird take on wild ale, but one that i welcome and enjoyed quite well. i hope to see bottles of this around at some point.
