Pours black with half a finger of khaki-tan foam that is slow to form. Aroma is toasty, roasty, caramely, and earthy with a toffee finish. Coffee is medium-strength throughout, offering up a touch of bitterness to the sweet-leaning nose. Flavor profile is toasty, roasty, caramely, and earthy malts with molasses, and toffee adding some further sweetness. Stout notes are solid, with a mild profile. Coffee is medium in thickness with middle-of-the-road bitterness and strength. Inoffensive, and compliant. Mouth feel is medium in thickness with a soft, creamy effervescent start that bubbles down quickly to a still, flat texture, akin to coffee at room temperature. Overall, solid coffee notes in both the nose and flavor profile with a real mild stout as the base.

16 oz. Can
Canned On: 12/31/20
ABV: 6%

Poured into a Trillium glass a pretty nice dark brown color, nice carbonation, with a nice thick/creamy/fizzy/quick one-finger tan head, which also leaves some minimal sticky lacing behind. The nose is malty, hoppy, with a nice touch of chocolate/toffee, coffee, vanilla, licorice. The taste is nice, malty, hoppy, with a nice touch of chocolate/toffee, coffee, nice vanilla sweetness, licorice. Medium body, ABV is hidden very well. Overall, this is a nice beer.

16oz can. Poured out an opaque, jet-black color with a good-sized, head of bubbly foam. It left sudsy rings of lace on the glass. It smelled of roasted coffee, chocolate, toffee, caramel and some pine. Sweet chocolate and toffee with roasted coffee goodness.

16 fl oz pull-tab can:

"Coffee stout." 6.0% ABV. Malts: golden promise, chocolate rye, oats, special B, moonlight serenade.

A bit on the sweet side, lacking the coffee bitterness and roast I hoped for. No spice from the rye malt either. Yeah, ultimately the coffee presence in this is just underwhelming and overly reticent...I barely get any coffee - maybe some light earthiness and hazelnut but no roast, Java bitterness, rich Sumatran earth, delicate fruitiness, or similar.

Obvious dark malt sweetness, specialty chocolate malt sweetness. No cacao nibs, vanilla, or roasted barley (to its detriment).

Why brew a coffee stout that's so shy on coffee? I scratch my head to wonder who'd buy this a second time when Founders' FBS is widely available (nevermind its local and regional competition, which in Colorado is substantial).

Thin and a bit a weak. Not a robust coffee stout by any stretch. Well carbonated. Unrefreshing.

An underwhelming attempt at a coffee stout from Odd13 that compares unfavorably to most coffee stouts (e.g. Parish's Reve) I've tried in 2020. It's drinkable, but it's not much of an oatmeal stout nor is it much of a coffee stout, and hot damn is its coffee flavour disappointing. Trader Joe's Stockyard Oatmeal Stout puts this to shame, and that beer isn't even 10 bucks a sixer...

Teaming up with Boxcar Roasters, Odd13 creates a lot of buzz around their American Stout, making this creation with both a lot of ups and a lot of downs, but mostly ups.

Buzzin' Cuzzin' pours with a gentlemanly black color, topped with a mocha whipped froth. As its robust and roasty perfume rolls onto the nose, it does so with generous coffee, roasted woods and grains and hints of cocoa and campfire. As creamy malts make first impressions, the taste opens with caramel and sorghum along with burnt cream and vanilla.

As the roasted coffee elements rise on the middle palate, the sweetness relaxes to allow for a more roasted edge to take hold. Bold roasted coffee, roasted walnut, burnt toast, light smoke and char all awakens the senses while the creaminess of nougat remain. Trending woodsy and bitter, the natural character of hop bitterness only fuels the coffee-like bitterness in a roasty, toasty late palate.

Medium full but seemingly fuller because of the robust and roasty taste, the coffee stout shies away from the body of imperial-status ale as its sense of drinkability is high despite its deep flavors, finishing long with smoldering embers and fresh brewed coffee.
