This gigantic DIPA is packed with Galaxy, Simcoe, and Centennial hops. Notes of dank pine, peach and citrus zest.

16 oz. Can
Canned On: 03/25/21
Poured into a Tree House glass a pretty nice slightly hazy yellow/orange color, with some pretty nice carbonation, with a pretty nice thick/creamy one-finger plus white head, which leaves some very nice sticky lacing behind. The nose is hoppy, malty, with a pretty nice citrus complex (orange, tangerine, grapefruit, mango, peach), pretty nice slight pine note. The taste is pretty nice, hoppy, malty, with a pretty nice citrus complex (orange, tangerine, grapefruit, mango, peach), with some slight pretty nice pineyness like, a nice little sweetness. Medium body, ABV is hidden very nicely, with a nice little dry/bitter finish. Overall, this one is pretty tasty, but would not call it a West Coast DIPA, there are hints of it, but reminds me more of the older east coast IPAs, more on the maltier side.

4-pack ran me $16.19 USD plus tax per 4-pack at a beer store in Colorado.
"West coast style double India Pale Ale." 8.1% ABV. Hops: Galaxy, Simcoe, Centennial. Malts: Golden Promise, 2-row, Munich, Wheat, Dextrin.
BODY: Hazy yellow-orange. Appears unfiltered.
HEAD: Fluffy. White. ~5cm in height. ~5 minute head retention.
AROMA: Passionfruit, subdued citrus, onion/allicin, floral hop aromatics. I'm not getting any tropical fruit hop aromatics save for passionfruit & orange citrus from the Galaxy. Centennial gets buried here; none of its piney aroma is coming through.
Wheat is pungent aromatically...much more so than I would imagined. Honey wheat pretzel dough comes to mind.
Fresh, fragrant, and inviting.
TASTE & TEXTURE: Creamy and soft on the palate...remarkably so. Passionfruit citrus, floral hop flavour, orange, onion/Simcoe hop burn.
Balanced albeit robust, with a pleasant and pungent enough hop profile for an IIPA but perhaps not enough depth of flavour. Centennial's absence is obvious, and that's certainly to the ale's detriment.
OVERALL: A drinkable likable IIPA that disguises its ABV well but doesn't dazzle with its hop profile. Not Odd13's finest work, but it's certainly worthwhile.
I do think those who care about the distinctions between so-called "West coast style IPAs" and so-called "East coast style IPAs"/"New England IPAs" will quibble about this not quite meeting West coast substyle norms given its spotlight on wheat instead of merely 2-row and its seeming lack of filtration, but I don't have a dog in that fight. This is a pretty good IIPA, but in the cutthroat Colorado market it's not going to pass muster over competition from the likes of Odell, Weldwerks, et al. -- nevermind the myriad terrific out-of-state expressions of the style gracing Colorado's increasingly eclectic distribution footprint.

Clear golden amber body topped with a thick and frothy white head; sculpted; sticky, spidery fingers of lacing around the glass. Fine aroma blend of citrus and pungent spiciness; earthy sweetness. Spicy, boozy, heavy malt sweetness sum up the taste; berry / melon-like esters in play; bitter with a phenolic edge, especially near the finish. Heavy body; seems overly sweet; hot.
The beer starts out nicely with the look and smell, but the taste and mouthfeel are rather off-kilter. We have complexity without balance. The brew offers promise but fails to deliver.
