Interesting! I was going to attribute this one to the Trollingers since they are the folks that I know down that way, but now I think that my local, in-person trader, @tone77 may have been the source of this one for The CANQuest (tm). Merci! I have been dabbling in Stouts the last couple of days so a Baltic Porter will make for a nice ChANge-up.
From the CAN: "SPB est. 2013"; "Named after Mississippi's favorite invasive species, our Cicada Series brings you limited edition seasonal selections."
I Crack!ed open the vent & when nothing untoward happened (for once), I proceeded with a slow, gentle C-Line Glug into the awaiting glass. It foamed beautifully toform just under two fingers of dense, foamy, rocky, light-tan/mocha head with very good retention. Color was Very Dark Brown to Black/Opaque (SRM = > 34, < 44) with mahogany highlights at the edges. Nose smelled of dried dark fruits - think raisins, prunes, cherries, figs & dates. 8=O Mmm. There was also a rich roastiness that imbued it with a coffee accent & in total, it had a vinousness, like a rich Red. Mmm. Mouthfeel was medium-to-full, not quite creamy, but on the approach. Sadly, the taste did not measure up to the nose. The coffee remained, as did a light smokiness, but none of the fruitiness translated over and as such, neither did the vinousness. 8=( I'm going to agree with @Squire here and say that it just lacked the Oomph! that should be expected in/from this style. It was not bad, per se, but it needed to be given a kick in the ass. Finish was semi-dry, CANother knock against it when it should/could have been very dry. I thank my benefactor, but this one was not a good example of the style. YMMV.

Appearance: Dark (natch) with quickly dissipating tan cap.
Aroma: It does have an Ethiopian coffee winey note. Can't find much more in the way of malt or hops.
Taste: I really wanted more. No, dammit, I think I was promised more. This one is all hat and no cattle. It looks like a Porter, sorta smells like a Porter, but the emphasis is off the mark. It's as if someone left something out, like richly flavored malt. Roasting alone does not for rich make.
Texture: Embarrassingly thin for the breed.
Overall: It does have malt, it does have hops, just not as much as one might expect in a Baltic Porter. To me Baltic Porter means more and this one is less.

Pours black with a finger and a half khaki head. Nose of roasted malt with fruity lager yeast esters giving the impression of Ethiopian cold brew. Chocolate and coffee up front with a really nice fruitiness on the back end. Medium mouthfeel, could be slightly creamier.

So good. Love it on tap... love it from the can. First look of this beer makes you think stout, which is right on time with a baltic style porter. It smells nice. Hints of hop bitter in the nose, but not much really. It has a sweet smell mostly. Taste fantastic. choco/sweet. Nice full flavor. Great beer.

Poured from a 16 oz. can. Has a black color with a 1 inch head. Smell is of roasted malts, chocolate. Taste is chocolate, coffee, hoppy bitterness at the finish, just a touch of sweetness. Feels medium/full bodied in the mouth and overall is a good quality beer worth trying.

My first offering from Spb and it did not disappoint. Traditional example of this style. Rich and roasty but not overly. It has a great balance in its finish to really round the full body out. I'd be happy to find this around ma.

An excellent take on the Baltic Porter style. Color is great and taste is true to the style. The body is light enough for the style And not so heavy that you confuse it with a stout.

16 oz can. Deep brown, almost black, finger tan head fades to a ring, little lace. Dark chocolate aroma. Taste is bitter dark chocolate as well with some underlying sugary sweetness. Semi dry finish with some espresso and earthiness coming out. Chewy creamy mouthfeel. Excellent brew for the style.
