Poured from 12 oz can dated 3/15/2017

A: Slightly hazy sunshine yellow with a dense 2-3 finger white head that lasts forever and leaves chunky lacing. Traces of sediment appearing in the bottom of the glass.

S: Belgian yeast and ripe banana combined with hints black pepper and clove. There is a pleasant fruitiness to the nose.

T: Ripe banana, honey sweetness, and a little spices hanging around at the end - pepper and clove. Alcohol is very well hidden.

M: Medium body with average carbonation. Soft texture with a creamy element.

O: Very nice Belgian Tripel. Nicely executed.

12 oz can, canned 3/15/17

Pours cloudy, orange/banana Amber, frothy cap, leaving gobs of thicker and lasting froth and extensive thicker lacing.

Fruity, yeasty sniff

More of the same on the palate, ripe tropical fruits, pineapple, bananas, yeast, slight phenolic bubble gum note...yum, love the style and this American take on it.

Well worth trying and savoring this quality Belgian style ale...in a can!

First had Belgian-Style Tripel, a limited release from the Rotator Series, poured from 12-oz. can, stamped on bottom, "CANNED 03/13/17 BY KEEZY," into SoPro Lazarus tulip. On expectation it would mellow, cellared a number of cans, and had again later in 2017, throughout 2018 and even in 2020, poured from like cans into appropriate glassware.

Pours hazy bright-gold, with 1-finger, creamy near-white head, quickly-dissipating to a film, which leaves nice spidery lace. Big aroma of spicy Belgian yeast, and some herbal quality, up front, and melon fruit aroma as warms. On tasting, mild carbonation delivers an initial hop bite, followed by yeast fruitiness, and then lots of smooth malt, "balanced" by a surprising amount of alcohol, in a challenging, warming malty finish. Mellower and fruitier after five months, and even fruitier--especially up front--after 1 year, but possibly less fruity although more mellow after 16 and 20 months, after which returns diminished.

This is a big, aggressive Tripel, which benefits from cellaring for up to 18 months.

Light lemon color with large Belgian type cap and lace.

Aroma is a subtle blend of mild sweet malt and light spices with a touch of banana and old leather.

Taste is restrained as if the brewer wanted to climb further out on the limb but didn't trust his hold. On entry malt is present along with spice and an herbal hoppiness, but not too much. Hop emerges moreso mid palate though it's a bittering hop taste rather than something softer. Hop bitterness a bit stronger emerges in the aftertaste. There is also a dry note in the middle which I suspect is rye which is in the grain mix. What is completely absent is any hint of alcohol and considering this bugger is 9.0% we're looking at a well crafted brew.

Full medium, creamy texture with enough carbonation to balance.

Overall a solid swing but a miss. I was hoping for more Belgian yeast influence, more Belgian spice like clove, stronger ripe fruit like banana, just a bit more oomph in those directions. Brewer says, "Pilsner malt with a touch of Rye layered with American Bravo hops" and go on to say it's a complex brew. Hmm, not quite, this one is high school pole vaulting as opposed to the collegiate bar set by Chimay Tripel and others of that ilk, yet, it is a darned good effort.
