A golden ale conditioned on 2 lb./gal. Louisiana satsumas, then refermented with Brett. C. on blood oranges. Bready and funky with a big hit of citrus.

Usurper, part of SoPro's Wild & Wood series, was a limited release at the SoPro Taproom only on draft, then was released in Nov. 2017 at the Taproom and in local markets in 16.9-oz. bottles. Had at the taproom on draft into 10-oz. tulip.
Pours deep, old gold, with clarity first pour from bottle and cloudy melon-gold the second, with up to 1-finger, bubbly, near-white head, which soon dissipates to a thin but persistent ring, leaving a little sketchy lace. Aromas off pour of bright orange and big funk, then sour and nice melon and biscuit aromas, with orange aroma continuing, and finally a little peppery spice as warms. On tasting, begins moderately tart, cleanly bitter and a bit funky, then nice fruit (melon) and biscuit malt, with a big round mouthfeel, before a bit of a sour, drying, and fruity orange finish.
A complex and flavorful refermented ale, well-balanced between the base Golden Ale, the added satsumas and blood oranges, and the Brett funk.
