Maenad, the first release in SoPro's Wild & Wood series, was released initially draft-only at the SoPro Taproom for the July 1, 2017, We Can Sell You Beer Party!, and in 16.9-oz. bottles at the taproom and then local markets in Nov. 2017. Had on release at the taproom on draft into snifter, and in Sept. 2025 had a cellared 2018 16.9-oz. bottle poured into a Teku tulip.

Pours light, bright yellow-gold with clarity, except for some sinking sediment, then cloudy or even murky gold second pour, with a bubbly, 1-finger near-white head, which soon dissipates to a ring and partial film, themselves lasting little longer and leaving only a few specks of lace. Huge aromas of tart and meaty peach, and some funk off pour, then plenty of peppery bite, with the aroma turning sweetly peach and continuing as warms. On tasting, begins very tart, peachy and funky, then a lot of bright citrusy bite, with a little cracker malt beneath, before a very tart and crispy, surprisingly citrusy, somewhat briny, and nicely sour finish.

In 2018, I opined that Maenad was not wickedly sour, but very funky and peachy. After 7 years, it's still wonderfully peachy and even more funky, but also world-class tart and sour.
