I am always excited for a stout or porter from SPB. I was worried a maple milk stout would be too sweet to finish. I was pleasantly surprised that has a very drinkable level of sweet.

Not the biggest fan of milk stouts. I bought this as a 4 pack cause a friend of mine who is a fan was going to visit. He ended up not making it. First try I had it after a few other beers (mainly IPAs) and couldn’t wait for me to finish it. Same with 2nd and 3rd try. 4th try I drank it with a chocolate cake, and changed my view point. The smell I mostly get slight hops over the maple. Drinking it isn’t that bad, very smooth with a light bit of sweet touch, and at the end I’m getting a small hops taste which I like. No where near my fav stout, it still not bad for a milk one. Will prob get this again as part of a 6 pack mixer.

Had (the OG) Spoils of War on its initial winter 2017-18 release at the SoPro Taproom on draft into tulip, and later poured from 22-oz. bomber into faceted mug; on its winter 2019-20 re-release poured from now-waxed 22-oz. bomber into like mug; and on its winter 2023-24 re-release poured from pint can, bottom stamped "CANNED BY FATE" on "01/29/24," into nonic pint.
Pours absolutely black with huge, bubbly tan head, with excellent retention, pulling splotchy Belgian lace down the glass. Aromas of milk chocolate and mild roast malts off pour, soon joined by a little citrus aroma, with the chocolate aroma continuing. On tasting, begins smooth and creamy, with sweet chocolate and mild citrus, then some nice neutral hop bite, all carrying into a crisp, still chocolatey, just a bit roasted malt and still somewhat fruity finish.
Big (enough) but not too sweet, deft, light, balanced and quaffable milk (chocolate) stout.
