CAN: Lacks any best before or expiration date. Pull-tab 16 fl oz. Green intricate label art. "Luddite IPA 2.0"

Not currently on the Top Mississippi Beers list, I think only because it currently only has 1 review/9 ratings.

Collaboration with Courtyard Brewing, New Orleans, LA. "IPA." 7.3% ABV.

HEAD: ~5cm in height. Fluffy. Not real creamy, but a bit frothy. Could be more robust. Retention is excellent - ~10 minutes. Leaves no lacing as it recedes.

BODY: Dull murky pale copper. Pretty ugly and lifeless, to be honest. Nontransparent. Lacks any vibrance at all. Some filtration would really help this look better.

Looks bad in comparison to most IPAs out there...I haven't seen an IPA this dull looking in some time.

AROMA: Tropical, leaning heavily on New World hops. Papaya, melon, kumquat, cantaloupe. Has a green/underripe fruit vibe.

Malt aromatics are minimal, with a neutral sweetness coming from 2-row/pale malt but little else coming through.

Aromatic intensity is quite mild for a 7.3% ABV IPA. Promises an easy drinker with a nice hop profile, but doesn't go big on hop notes or depth.

TASTE & TEXTURE: Coating and smooth, with a citrusy acidity and unrefreshing pulpiness to it. Medium-bodied and well-carbonated but not clean drinking or soft.

Hop flavours are all fruity and tropical, but feel subdued. Papaya, kumquat, melon, cantaloupe...it's not a great hop profile and there's very little depth of hop flavour here. Feels incomplete, like they forgot a hop addition during the boil.

Not piney, resinous, boldly citrusy, grapefruity, bitter, grassy, or floral. Its simplistic tropical fruit hop profile tastes tired after only a few sips.

Seems like another casualty of the crusade against bitterness in IPAs and the appalling desire for haziness...what happened to hop flavours being the point?

OVERALL: At least other India Odwalla Ales get some juicy flavours going even if they don't commit to their hop varietals. This is a tepid effort that doesn't want to commit to its hops and seems more interested in ticking the boxes of a hazy appearance and minimal bitterness than it is in tasting hoppy and balanced. Sierra Nevada's Pale Ale has more hop pungency than this ostensible IPA does, and at least Sierra Nevada's Pale Ale showcases Cascade...this suppresses its hop varietals. A drinkable but forgettable overpriced beer I wouldn't bother with again.

This collaboration with Courtyard Brewery was initially released at the SoPro and Courtyard taprooms, on draft the week of 02/12/2018, and in pint cans on 02/18/2018, and then locally only in Hattiesburg and New Orleans.

Had at the SoPro Taproom on draft into 10-oz. tulip. Soft and sweet up front with a little bite in the back.

2019 Update: Luddite 2.0 was released in April 2019 in pint cans and on draft at the SoPro Taproom and for Hopfest at the Courtyard Taproom, and on a limited basis in limited local markets. The recipe was tweaked a bit with more oats, additional Mosaic in the whirlpool and the substitution of Summer for Denali hops. The result, which I had poured from a pint can into a nonic pint, has a bigger tropical aroma and more body than the original.
