I happened to catch this can in a $10 mix-a-six at a little run down tobacco store. Never know what you might find in those holes in the wall. Could be a penis. Anyways...

Dated 10/8/19 but I was willing to risk it as this is normally a $5 can. (the rest of the six pack was made up of fresh Parish Pure Tropics so overall, I did pretty well).
Boulevard Smokestack Snifter.

Very juicy creamy gold with a very thick creamy bone white head of 3 fingers, leaving tons of lace as it recedes.

On the nose, hop spoilage is apparent, but expected; beyond the hop oxidation I get mellow peach and orange with slight grapefruit and melon. Slight tangerine too. Gonna give this a 4.

Ah this IPA is too far gone. I can tell it was good at one point but now it tastes like moldy peaches and mild cheddar. Some ash tray as well. Still gonna give it a 3.75 because of its underlying juicy flavors of citrus and grapefruit which still remain strong.

Feel is creamy and juicy and lightly acidic, a little lighter bodied than most NE IPAs but still impressive for this state.

Overall, I wanted to rate this as fair as I could, so those scores are taken into account. A fresher can is definitely in order (send me beer!). SoPro IPAs are usually best within the 9 week window and this is nearly 4 months old now, so a little spoilage was expected, but this can is completely wasted. A few sips and I'm good. Baiiiiii

Hazy gold color with good white cap and lacing.

Aroma of bright, juicy hops with citrus zest undertones.

Taste is hop led with sharp citrusy notes opening like a trumpet voluntary. Clear high pitched notes that sing out with clarity and presence. There is an even balance between the hop flavors with citrus and herbal qualities in about equal measure. Grains play a secondary role providing a creamy textured base for the hops to play off of.
Full texture with balancing carbonation.

A very well crafted and complex beer on the hazy Ipa theme.

On-tap at J. Wakefield Brewing, Miami, FL

A: The beer is very hazy yellow in color. It poured with a half finger high off white head that left a thin collar around the edge of the glass and some lacing on the surface.
S: Light aromas of honeydew melon are present in the nose.
T: The taste has flavors of limes and honeydew melon along with hints of mangos. No bitterness is perceptible.
M: It feels medium-bodied and very juicy on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: I liked the mixture of tropical fruit flavors in the taste of this beer.

CAN:

It's a mellow easy drinking IPA with a well disguised ABV and a nice hop profile for those into the juicy minimal bitterness fad. Clean citrus, soft pale malt, coconut, subdued passionfruit, creamsicle.

Soft, smooth, wet, and refreshing. Light-bodied for a 7.5% ABV ale.

Quite drinkable overall, though it lacks the hop pungency and depth of hop flavour I'd look for in a great IPA. Would be well worth recommending were it not for its abhorrent pricing (which doesn't affect my rating). If offered in sixers at the $11-$12 price point, I'd probably pick it up a couple times a year. As-is, this'll be the only 4 pack I buy and I'll enjoy polishing it off.

Hazy IPA with flaked oats, malted spelt, and azacca, cashmere, lotus, and Citra hops. The spelt takes it in an interesting direction. Nose is very juicy and lush, but the palate doesn't quite live up to its promise.

I've tried several from this brewery and was excited to see beers from them here in North AL.

It's a good juicy, hazy IPA. There are several out there that are similar. Overall I'd get this again if Paradise Lost wasn't avaiable.

Sunkatcher was released on 07/12/2019 at the SoPro Taproom on draft and in pint 4-pks., and thereafter market-wide in limited quantities. Have had on draft at a couple of spots around Jackson, Mississippi, and poured from pint cans, bottom stamped (apparently) canned on “07/12/19,” into nonic pint.

Brewed “with malted and flaked oats, barley, a heavy dose of spelt malt, and dry-hopped with Azacca, Cashmere, Lotus, and Citra hops.”

A very interesting, beautiful and tropical New England IPA, with distinct but delicious malt aroma and flavor—I guess from the spelt malt?
