Dragons of Eden, a limited release in the Wild & Wood Series, was released at the SoPro Taproom in Jan. 2018 draft-only, and in Aug. 2018 in 16.9-oz. bottles as part of the Aug. 2018 Summer Sour Sampling every Thursday. Had in Nov. 2018 and again in July 2020 each time poured from 16.9-oz. bottle, label printed “2018,” into tulip.
Pours bright gold with clarity first pour and cloudy from sediment but bright two-tone tangerine/ melon gold second pour, with 1/2-finger to huge fizzing, bubbly near-white head, which quickly dissipates to a thin ring, leaving practically no lace. Aromas of citrusy passion fruit and extremely tart Tabasco off pour, and continuing for a bit, then sweet, funky melon aroma, and as warms floral, mild cracker and hints of many other fruit (peach? Strawberry? Pineapple?) aromas join. On tasting, some sweet, mild malt up front, and bright, biting, citrusy passion fruit, which continues over some drying, acidic bite, and a little dry cracker malt beneath, into a long, drying, tart passion fruit, slightly piney, and finally a bit funky melon finish.
Not a beautiful beer, but astonishingly fruity aromas contrasted with red pepper bite promise drama, which the beer delivers in fruity, tart, funky profusion.
