The Outlaw Gosey Whales was a SoPro Taproom-only release in October 2020 on draft and in pint 4-pks., and had a like re-release in October 2022. Had poured from pint can, bottom stamped (apparently) canned on "10/17/20," into pilsner glass.
Pours beautiful but hazy and unrefined raspberry-red, as there is some fruit in suspension, with a fizzing 1-finger pink head, instantly gone unfortunately, leaving not a trace (of lace). Aromas are fruit and cream off the pour, then big continuing aromas of multiple sweet and tart fruits, with a little brine and cracker malt on show. A crisply carbonated beginning leads into complex and mostly tart fruit flavors, including pineapple, pink grapefruit, and strawberries, with the tartness at first suppressed by coconut cream, all over cracker malt base, before a nicely fruity and increasingly tart, citrus crisp and dry finish.
The can is ugly, but the beer less so, and the interesting even inspired combination of fruits and coconut finally makes for a beautiful gose.
