This Maple version of the OG Spoils of War was released in October 2021 at the SoPro Taproom on draft and in pint can 4-pks., and then for distribution. Had poured from pint can, bottom stamped "10/12/21," into nonic pint.
Pours absolutely black, transmitting only a little gold light at the very edge when backlit, with 1-finger tan head and decent retention, but leaving little lace. Aroma of sweet milk and mild chocolate off the pour, soon joined by a little maple syrup, all buoyed by some grassy hops. A little carbonation at the start, and a smooth, creamy but light body, then sweet maple cola, before a growing chocolate presence and just a hint of roast malts, in the rather sticky but slightly biting hoppy finish.
The Maple is a nice, deft and subtle twist on the OG Spoils.
