Purple Smoke DDH imperial IPA with lactose- we took our base DDH crowd recipe and added a pinch of lactose to soften it up and only added a whirlpool hop addition. We then dry hopped during fermentation then again afterwards with two equal parts Galaxy, Motueka, Strata, and citra at a rate 7lbs per barrel.

Purple Smoke was released on May 21, 2022, at the SoPro Taproom on draft and in pint can 4-pks. for Southern Prohibition’s 9th Anniversary Party. Had poured from pint can, no date, into nonic pint.
Pours deep orange juice hazy with 1- to 2-finger, creamy near-white head, with excellent retention, leaving chunky rings of lace down the glass. Aromas of mild resin, oats and dankness off pour, then a bit of citrus rind, and as warms tropical and stone fruits, (straw?)berries and lime, with, finally, a growing dankness. Begins sweet and creamy but with a little citrus bite, then nice strawberry shake comes on, before huge tropical and varied stone fruits take over, and finally a little resin leads into a drying, crisp, but not overly bitter finish.
Imperial faux milkshake New England IPA--with this hop bill you would swear it's brewed with real fruit, and a lot of 'em.
