Ten Year 4X IPA was released at the SoPro Taproom on April 29, 2023, for "X," SoPro's 10 Year Anniversary party, only on draft. Had poured from crowler, label handwritten "Ten Year 4X IPA" and filled at the SoPro Taproom on "5/13[/23]," into nonic pint.
Pours tangerine juice hazy, with huge, creamy off-white head, with excellent retention, leaving rings of splotchy lace down the glass. Aroma of mango off pour, then aromas of mild hop spice and definite Galaxy guava, and of continuing citrus in the background. On tasting, brief mild melon to start, quickly overwhelmed by big orange bite, which drops away a bit to reveal a creamy, mild malt backbone and body, and then mild hop spice, before a big, biting, moderately citrus, mildly warming resinous finish.
Unsurprisingly identical in appearance to the double dry-hopped Ten Year IPA, this 4X dry-hopped version, with Galaxy hops added, is far more citrusy (orange), with fewer other fruits in evidence, despite the Guava addition, and a little less resin in the finish. Different, but not better (or worse).
