West Mountain Hermit was a small batch release in Aug. 2023 (only) at the SoPro Taproom, on draft and in 12-oz. twistee crowlers (reminiscent of the old cone top beer cans). Had poured from 12-oz. twistee crowler, no date but filled 09/23/2023 at the Taproom, into Teku tulip 3.0.
Pours cloudy but bright light melon-gold with 1/2-finger, fizzing near-white head, which soon drops to a persistent ring, and leaves a little sketchy lace. Aromas of white wine grape, tart lime and mild malt off pour, then of strawberry, sweet guava and fruit skins, and tropical funk as warms. On tasting, begins extremely dry white wine, with biting lime, then a full tropical melon mouthfill, with some sweet grapefruit, over a little malt body, leading into a now biting, dry white wine grape finish.
Clean, crisp, NZ white wine, with a supporting if not demonstrative malty beer backbone.
