This stout (no lactose) was put into its first barrel (4 roses bourbon) in Dec. 2021, and was moved to a freshly emptied apple brandy barrel in Nov. 2022, where it has slept until April 2023. Crushed with Madagascar vanilla beans and chocolate to mimic red velvet cake.

Double Barrel-Aged Hunters Twilight was released on April 29, 2023, (only) at the SoPro Taproom, for SoPro's 10 Year Anniversary party, on limited draft and in gold-flecked, dark red-waxed 16.9-oz. bottles. Had poured from gold-flecked, dark red-waxed 16.9-oz. bottle into snifter.
Pours absolutely black with fizzing, 1/2-finger dark tan head, which quickly fizzes away to nothing. Nice burst of bourbon aroma off pour, then cake-like malt and mild chocolate aromas, with a hint of spice, joined by brandy and orchard fruit aromas as warms. On tasting, the smooth malt body starts and carries beneath and through chocolate and fruity brandy, with some sweet vanilla joining, into a sticky, slightly hop-bitter, warming bourbon finish.
Definitely a dessert beer, but with subtle and varied aromas, and deftly balanced with flavors of mild bourbon and brandy, which add alcohol warmth to a nice hop bite, moderating the confectionary finish.
