We have brewed this version of our beloved cake several times and this double barrel version is pinnacle. This beast spent 27 months between two 4 roses barrels. Crushed with toasted and raw coconut, nibs, and pecans.

This Double Barrel-Aged version of German Chocolate Cake Stand was released on April 29, 2023, (only) at the SoPro Taproom for SoPro's 10 Year Anniversary party on limited draft and in black-waxed 16.9-oz. bottles. Had in June 2023 at the Taproom on draft into type of pokal, and in June 2024 poured from black-waxed 16.9-oz. bottle into snifter.
Pours absolutely black with fizzing, 1/2-finger dark tan head, which, as expected for a seriously barrel-aged beer, instantly dissipates to nothing, leaving no lace. Big aromas of dark malt and sweet and spicy bourbon whiskey off pour, soon joined by coconut aroma, which continues along with the sweet and spicy bourbon. On tasting, begins with big, thick, malty, mild chocolate mouthfeel, and mild, slightly spicy bourbon, then mild coconut, all interrupted by a little spicy hop bite, and not a little citrus, before a nice nutty flavor and texture, which carry into a smooth toffee, rather peppery (hoppy), mild chocolate and pleasingly mild bourbon finish.
Extra (double) barrel-aging, as compared to regular Cake Stand - German Chocolate Cake, gets you additional toffee smoothness and a much longer, pleasant bourbon finish.
