Barrel-Aged Hunter’s Beckoning was released on Black Friday, November 24, 2023, (only) at the SoPro Taproom on limited draft and in orange-waxed 16.9-oz. bottles. Had in Nov. 2024 poured from like bottle into snifter.
Pours absolutely black (but underneath a deep amber-brown), with 1-finger, fizzing, dark tan head, which quickly dissipates to a thin ring, itself soon gone, leaving no lace. Big aroma of caramel and moderate aroma of bourbon off pour, and then a little graham cracker, some bright citrus and hop spice aromas, all of which continue on, with a base barley/grain aroma showing as warms. On tasting, begins very smooth and creamy, but not heavily so, with an immediate moderate whiskey bite, then big caramel, and less marshmallow, eventually revealing the base barley and graham cracker, before a Nobly-hopped, mild whiskey, somewhat warming, eventually a little peppery and spicy, finally (if you sip long enough) a little citrusy, fairly clean finish.
Lighter-bodied than expected from the list of adjuncts, more aromatically diverse than expected from what's not on that list, dangerously easy-drinking, and interestingly tasty like an expertly-mixed, after-dinner cocktail, you will immediately want to open another bottle, even though you know you shouldn't.
