Imperial stout aged for a quick turn (9 months) in uber-fresh Wild Turkey Bourbon barrels, as we were shooting for stronger barrel notes than some previous lengthy barreled projects. Wouldn’t be hype without adjuncts so we hit it with Madagascar vanilla beans to highlight flavors in the liquid.

Hype Barrel Racks 4.0 was released on May 11, 2024, for SoPro's 11 Year Anniversary party (only) at the SoPro Taproom, on draft and in gold-waxed 16.9-oz. bottles. Had poured from gold-waxed 16.9-oz. bottle into snifter.
Pours absolutely black with very thin, dark-tan head, which quickly dissipates to a partial film and thin ring, themselves soon gone, leaving only a few specks of lace. Big whiskey and cake-like barley aromas off pour, and continuing, then much sweet vanilla aroma, with brief bright citrus and longer spice aromas complementing the cake as warms. On tasting, begins all smooth, creamy malt, then brief, neutral hop bite, soon followed by sweet vanilla and big, sweet and spicy bourbon, over a chocolate cake backbone, before a warming, spicy alcohol and chocolate cake finish.
Easy-drinking big stout, with minimal bells and whistles but a satisfying bourbon sauce drizzle over chocolate cake finish.
