Leaving behind a legacy is a desire that lives within us. Some beers want the same. Our black saison is brewed with peppercorns and dried currants creating an intense dark malt presence. The layers of flavor will linger beyond the last sip.

Poured from a 750ml bottle into a tulip glass. The entry here lists the abv at 5.8%, but the bottle says 7.0%, so assuming the bottle is correct.

Pours pitch black with a large tan head. This beer must be easily agitated, been sitting for 24 hours, and foam came out the top when opened. Be a bit gentle when handling this one.

Sweet malt, fresh mowed grass, and pepper are the main things I can smell. Has a bit of an outdoors character to it, which I look for in this style.

Taste is a bit of roasted malt up front, giving it a bit of an opening bitter character. The flavor of the currants really comes out. and almost threatens to overwhelm the taste, but the roasted character keeps is just in check, but barely. There are light hints of chocolate and caramel at the finish, and it is a little on the dry side.

Feel is on the thin size for such a dark looking beer, and the carbonation is not too high.

Definitely an interesting and unique take on the style. It is almost a fruit beer, as the currants add a lot of fruit character to it. It is full of flavor, and if you don't mind a fruit flavored beer, worth a try.

Version I had was 7.0 abv. Pretty good, just not quite up to my favorites of the Dark Saison style, Existent and Pepe Nero.

A deep amber brown color with 2 fingers + foamy off white head, slow dissipation and a bit of lacing left behind. Smells like caramel, Belgian peppery yeast, dates/plum, hint if chocolate. Flavor is pretty mellow.. A bit of roasty bitterness up front, slight oxidation, dark fruit, bready, and a hint of chocolate again. Kind of like eating rye bread. A bit thin body wise.. Medium carbonation and fairly easy to drink.
I guess this is one of those asked where saison actually does mean beer of no-style. This is in between an altbier, Belgian dubbel, and saison. Strange, but pretty damn tasty.
