A house famous for its Wilds and quite accomplished in its abbey ales, I had middling expectations for this lager. But, Eyes is interesting. And I'm glad I bought the 4-pack.
Eyes is fruity for a lager, but bocks probably can get away with that; being malt-forward. The Eyes Look pretty in my Une Annee teku, amber and a lively foam. (I will post the photo on UnTappd as Beginner3 because I still can't figure out how you guys do it on BA.) I'm really not Smelling much, mostly malt but not exuberant. Tastes are balanced, a judicious use of hops. Medium-mouthed at best for the fulsome bock.
As for my high Overall rating, that's for Eyes helping along appetizers and for Une Annee' being #2 in my Chicagoland Belgium-inspired Triumvirate (Off Color is #1 and #3 is Pilot Project... and neither has a kitchen approaching Une Annee', a bona fide gastro-pub.)
3/28/23 I drank a second can as I edited the above (heavily) and added to it (even more heavily.) A votre Sante' !
