A Kölsch is not the first style I would turn to for a really new brewery. But it was early afternoon, and I still had to go back to work. So this relatively low ABV style was about right.
Various NW brewers have tried the Kölsch style (eg Chuckanut, Double Mountain) and as an actual German born person with some roots in the Ruhrgebeit I am usually disappointed. I liked this one better than the aforementioned. Still not quite right on the crispness you are supposed to have from a lagered German beer (should cold store it longer?), and perhaps not the exact yeast flavor I'm used to from a true German Kölsch, but it was perfectly drinkable. Color not as straw as usual for the style, more golden, but that wasn't a putoff at all. Good malt/hop balance. Good lace on head. And chose well to use citrusy hops (they say Sterling but seemed more distinct than that, different finisher?) to get that aspect of the flavor right.
PS this brewpub really is brand spanking new. They have 5 other regular beers plus a couple of special editions right now. As a summer beer the Kölsch might be gone soon. Would strongly encourage the Seattle area folks to come out and give this place a try. Like the very-nearby Black Raven it is BYOF, 21+, well sited for the after work crowd from the nearby cubicle farms of the Software Capitol.

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
