Dark brown with a glint of amber around the edges. Not much foam poured from the growler into the Watou chalice, but the sudsy sensation on the tongue is quite pleasant. Aroma of warm caramel and bread.
Mouthfeel is winey and inviting. There is a delicious roasted malt taste that is both caramel sweet and edged with some charred grain. The hops provide the right bitter edge without any murkiness. This is rich and just sweet enough. Some spicy notes and something like nutmeg.
This is lighter and way more refreshing than the typical massive RIS. An interesting and more drinkable version, but still large and to be treated with respect. From the jug purchased at the brewpub in Redmond (near Black Raven).
