A bottle left over after GABF judging and given to me as a reward for my volunteer efforts. Pours a two finger yellowed fluffy head over a brilliant rich-rust liquid. Head holds well and slowly cascades to the liquid. Gorgeous. Smells piney hops, lemon, pith, baby aspirin, green onion, tropical fruits. Grassy and clean alcohol sting. The aromas do not jump out, they take some digging to find.
Tastes malty sweet with balancing hop flavor and bitter. Malt flavor is non-descript because it is buried under the hops. Hop flavors are tropical fruit (lemon and pineapple), pine, and pink-grapefruit pith. Hop bitter is grassy and waxy mixing over alcohol to make a bitter astringency that I guess fits the style. Creamy in the mouth, but not heavy on the tongue with modest carbonation. Lingering pithy bitter accompanied by a bit of stingy alcohol on the tips of the papillae. Resiny bitter stand taller and taller as I got further into this beer.

This beer appears a clear, glass dark orange amber colour, with one finger of creamy ecru head, which leaves some swaths of similar lace on the East side of the glass. It smells mildly of citrusy hops, and toffee. The taste is bitter pine and citrus rind hops, moderately sweet caramel malt, a run silent, run deep herbal undertone, and some very soft booze warming. The carbonation is on the low side, the body a solid medium weight, smooth, and weirdly sticky, given the unassuming malt. It finishes still quite bitter, the hops in for the long haul.
Definitely more IPA-like, the malt not really standing up. That goes for the booze profile as well, which does an admirable job of making itself scarce - only in the flavour, of course.

The carbonation is on the low side, the body a solid medium weight, smooth, and weirdly sticky, given the unassuming malt. It finishes still quite bitter, the hops in for the long haul.

Had on tap at the brewpub.
A: Pours a deep dark orange bordering on amber; hazy with a head that dissipates quickly but leaves a nice trail of sticky lacing.
S: Pine, resin, grapefruit, caramel malt, some sweetness and mostly bitterness. A touch of alcohol as well.
T: Taste follows the nose, a good amount of pine but it balances well with the malts and grapefruit and sweetness.
MF: Great full bodied mouthfeel, bitter and dry.
O: Great beer, really impressed. Locally this is going to be one of my favorites, I like it more than the Dagger Falls from Sockeye.
