Poured into a snifter. Frankly, I thought that the beer was somewhat ugly in appearance; a turbid butternut squash color with a thin off-white head that quickly settled into a wispy cap. The nose was nice. Piney resin, oranges, bread, and some caramel. The taste was much more citrus up front - bitter orange and grapefruit. Some tropical fruit as well, followed by the sturdy malt backbone with some sweetness that played well with the bitter notes. Much more fruity than earthy/piney, but certainly not one-dimensional. A big beer but with a somewhat slick feel, probably due to the oats.

Pours a rather hazy and murky rusty red orange, but a nice sunburst color in direct light with a ring and thin layer of off-white foam.
Strong dank aroma of hop resins, pine, grass, caramel, toffee, tea-like spice, lemon, and a tropical fruit vibe.
An explosion of citrus and tropical fruit flavors of lemon, orange, grapefruit, lime, pineapple, and mango hits immediately followed by a rather astringent and strong piney and spicy hop resin coating washes over the tongue and sticks around.
Full-bodied, low-medium carbonation, sticky, bitter, resinous.
Overall, this has both great aroma and flavor qualities, but the alcohol is not well hidden. At 11%, you can definitely taste it and although the aroma and flavor provides a lot of layers and strength, unfortunately cannot mask the booze. Tasty and delicious nonetheless.

Tasted in a Spuegelau IPA glass from a 1 pt 6 oz bottle on May 14, 2016. Look is cloudy amber with an off-white head and some lingering lacing. Smell is grapefruit, lemon, dank hops and yeast with toffee malt aromas. Taste is dank hops and bitter citrus with caramel malt flavors. Feel is medium in body and a little bitter yet smooth finish.
