Taking Imperial Stout to a whole new status, Wiseacre Brewing treats their fabled Stout to a rum barrel bath for a bold umami taste that's simply out of this world.
Jet black and viscus upon the pour, Astronaut Status (Rhum Barrel Aged) builds a rich mocha-whipped lather ahead of intense savory aromas of coffee, chocolate, soft caribbean spice, rum soaked oak and a deep sherry-like scent that's remiss of soy sauce. Equally as rich on the tongue, the flavors open up with a strong molasses and brown sugar sweetness to accompany the bold nuances of chocolate and coffee.
Creeping onto the middle palate, the sweetness holds firm while the roastier aspects of burnt toast, espresso and bittersweet chocolate trend into cake batter consistency, brought together with spiced rum, oak and marzipan. Rounded, rich and deeply savory throughout, the beer's strong oxidation character has it trending like sherry and soy in an extended late palate.
Full bodied and lush on the tongue, this imperial stout finishes long, sweet and robust; making it a slow sipping session meant for savoring as it warms. A long bittersweet aftertaste is laced with those marzipan and sherry flavors for a high reward for the senses.
