Azazel Belgian Golden Ale IS BACK. Starting with the quintessential Belgian Golden, Duvel, the names of these beers often reference the devil...and for good reason. This beer is named for Azazel, the evil scapegoat of the old testament. He'll try to lure you into oblivion with soft pale malt and fruity flavors of pear, bubblegum, over-ripe mango, lack of dignity and spice from the Belgian yeast and the herbal hit of hops. As you frolic in the fizzy-fun bubbles and the sweet boozy warmth washes over you, keep your wits about you. Danger lurks ahead.

Not much head or foam but pours a pale golden with an abundance of bubbles. Aroma is faint clove and brioche ish bread. Taste is where this one wins. Heavy on the bubblegum and pear with a snappy crisp finish, almost like Delirum Tremens lite. Extremely drinkable, slightly fruity and very refreshing, but not as complex as a great Belgian Strong would be. Mouthfeel is good, heavy on the carbonation and not too drying or coating.

Altogether worth the price of admission, although not as good as Delirum or Piraat. Much less of an experience and more of a pleasant refreshment, if that would make sense.

19.2oz can with an unreadable stamp poured into an Duvel glass at fridge temp 8.3% ABV 35 IBU per can/Untappd. The beer pours bright pale gold with off white head. The head recedes to a thin ring and single layer of bubbles. Minimal spotty lacing. The aroma is mild with soft, sweet pale malt, clove, pear and honey. The taste is semisweet pale malt with more pear, clove and gentle, but firm, floral bitterness. The feel is medium bodied with above average carbonation and a mostly dry finish. Overall, very, very good Belgian pale strong ale.
