Wild Ass Amber Ale
O'Fallon Brewery

A- Pours dark amber to light brown. Large pillowy head that recedes, leaving a thin frothiness. Very cloudy.

S- Slight floral, perfumy with a very transient graininess. Maybe even a little boozy as it warms.

T- Initial carbonation bite leads into a slightly soapy, cardboard mid. Mild matliness with raisin, plum. Finish is mildly unpleasant, again soapy, with a pronounced oak note. Bitterness is gentle and balanced.

M- Initially high carobnation leads into a nice, medium-heavy body. Slightly slick on the palate.

OI- An interesting combination of American Amber with English hops and finishing oak character. Seems to be an old sample (oxidation). Fun to see such an interesting local brew, but by no means exceptional otherwise. Shows potential... perhaps a fresher sample is called for?

Dark gold color, hazy appearance, small head that dissipated quickly. Aroma is sweet with dark fruit, fig and oak dominating. Mouthfeel is slightly carbonated and sweet, and the flavor matches the aroma. Nice and balanced, not much hop bitterness or flavor I can detect, but the overall flavor is very well balanced. Nice caramel fig sweetness balanced by the oak. Definitely enjoyable. Had a sample at Timber Creek in O'fallon to try out, and had to order a full pint!

A - Poured out a hazy, amber color with ruby highlights. It had a small, tan head of foam. It left minimal lacing.

S - It smelled of sweet bready malts. Maybe there is some vanilla?

T - It tasted of bready malt with very mild vanilla and oak flavors. There is almost no hop bitterness to speak of.

M - It was crisp, sharp and fairly smooth. A medium bodied ale with a dry finish.

O - This is an okay beer. A little odd to have an oak aged amber ale that is not very strong.

Red and slightly cloudy with a good head and decent lacing.

Caramel malts and floral hops dominate the aroma.

Definitely buttery tasting big time, with earthy tones, caramel malts, a bit of hops, slightly spiced, and sweet.

Feels slick and buttery to the point where it might have flavoring syrup in it.

Average drink. It's ok, not outstanding tho.

Pours a cloudy reddish amber with an off white head.

Aromas scream English Bitter or Pale Ale. Caramel malt, butterscoth, and some fruity hop character.

Flavors follow the same path. Butterscotch, sticky toffee pudding, fruiy hops, little bitterness, maybe a touch of dry oak on the finish, but that might be in my head.

Medium to full bodied.

The label looks cheap and set my expectations low. I was wrong to doubt the Wild Ass. This is an excellent English-style session ale. Wonderful malt character, nice hop flavors, but low bitterness. Very high drinkability. Reccomended.

Pours a clear, amber color. 1/2 inch head of an off-white color. Good retention and decent lacing. Smells of floral hops, earthy malt, slight butter, spice, and sweet malt. Fits the style of an American Amber / Red Ale. Mouth feel is smooth and crisp with an average carbonation level. Tastes of sweet malt, slight earthy malt, floral hops, slight citrus, wood, alcohol, hint of spice, and slight butter. Overall, very refreshing, good blend, and nice body.
