Looks like this was finally brought back. battered 473 ml can served cold into a pint glass. LCBO purchase for $5. Canned April 20, 2020.

Appearance - Mildly hazy golden brew with orange highlights. Two fingers of decadent and dense frothy head. Great amounts of spidery lacing left behind.

Smell - Muted piney notes, big caramel base in behind. That's followed up with some earthiness and hints of grapefruit.

Taste - Surprisingly muted hops and well concealed booze. Light sweet flavors of lychee and guava. Pine in behind. Caramel undercurrent and sturdy malt base.

Mouthfeel - Medium bodied, booze super well concealed, slightly dry finish, effortless drinking (which is hard with a near 9% DIPA).

Overall - Solid DIPA, great looks and feel. Taste might be improved by sampling a fresher can, but still pretty solid. Well worth a try and with some tweaks potentially a top notch brew.

Surprisingly excellent IIPA. Lovely amber with a frothy head. Strong dank, grass and piney notes. Strong malt backbone with pleasant bitterness on the finish. One of the better local IPAs I have had in some time and from a surprising source. Would not hesitate to try again.

500 mL bottle picked up at the brewery in St. Jacob's; listed at 8.7%, with no bottling date given. I do love the label art, but Block Three might be poking a bear here - Nintendo is a company that is not at all gun-shy about hassling people whom they believe to be profiting off of their intellectual property. Served slightly chilled.

Pours a murky, copper-amber colour, capped off with nearly an inch of foamy, whipped-creamy head that slowly dissipates. By the five minute mark, it has died down into a denser, lumpier half-cm cap, with a generous collar and gobs of beautiful lacing. Very visually attractive, with an enticing bouquet that includes plenty of tangerine, grapefruit, pineapple and mango. Some dank, wet pine forest tones are also noticeable, with additional notes of apricot, syrupy caramel and grainy pale malt.

This is a very nice DIPA, with the hefty alcohol content being surprisingly well-masked. There is a sturdy, bold malt backbone of caramel/toffee sweetness, toasted bread and biscuits, with fruity flavours of apricot, passion fruit and pineapple figuring in soon after. It becomes increasingly dank and piney as you near the tail end, with the bitterness growing to a resiny, lip-smacking climax at the finish. Bittersweet aftertaste, consisting of earthy wet pine and a vaguely boozy stone fruit sweetness. Medium-full in body, with relatively light carbonation levels and a silky-smooth, oily mouthfeel that coats the palate with each sip.

Final Grade: 4.00, an acceptable A-. Block Three's 1-Up is a pretty impressive DIPA. It possesses more than enough hoppy astringency to placate the hophead set, with a firm malt backing to keep things somewhat balanced, as well as a fulfilling, satisfying mouthfeel. Not a world-beater, but still a very solid offering that I'd purchase again, and would consider worth keeping an eye out for. Seriously though; they've sent out C&D letters for less than this.
