Unlabelled 500 mL bottle picked up at the brewery last week; served well-chilled. Brewed with Sorachi Ace, Mosaic and Citra hops.
This unfiltered brew pours a hazy golden-blonde colour, generating one finger of loose, soapy white-coloured froth at the surface. It fizzles away almost entirely over the next couple of minutes, leaving behind a bubbly film and thin collar, as well as some scattered swaths of lace. Looks like your run-of-the-mill pale ale. Lots of pithy citrus/citrus peel on the nose - quite lemony, with quite a bit of pink grapefruit character, too. This is in addition to contributing notes of lychee berry, cantaloupe and peach, as well as subtle hints of grainy malt and honey.
The assertive hop strains used dominate almost the entirety of the flavour profile, though there remains an underlying grainy cereal malt sweetness. More peach, berry and juicy melon flavour comes through mid-sip, followed by a mixture of lemon pith and grapefruit zest as the more astringent facets begin to take hold. Far more bitter than I'd expect from something listed at 20 IBUs - this pithy quality lingers through the finish and into the aftertaste. I noticed a tinge of butterscotch in the first few sips, but my tongue seemed to tune it out over time (the bitterness helped to distract, perhaps). Decidedly light-bodied, with moderately low carbonation levels that prickle the palate; feels adequately crisp and quite refreshing. Easy to drink, although the Sorachi Ace is pretty potent - so if you don't like that hop you'll likely disagree.
Final Grade: 3.85, a respectable B+. Noon on a Weekday is not my favourite of Block Three's pale ales, but it's still a relatively solid one that should appeal to the majority of hopheads. Though its name implies that it was designed as a liquid lunch (or perhaps as a complement to a solid lunch, you teetotalling sissy), at 5% abv, this just barely qualifies as sessionable. If you work in the afternoon, you might want to call it quits after one or two - and honestly, that quantity would probably be enough for me at any given time of day. It's a very good, not great, but still highly drinkable pale ale. I'd encourage you to try if you have the chance.
