this is really cool. they take a coffee concentrate from highly acclaimed kopplins coffee near by, and put it in the bottom of the glass right there before they pour it. its not in the beer or anything prior. the concentrate must be very strong, as only a little bit goes a long way and imparts some amazingly rich and earthy coffee to the nose and the flavor, hearty and warming and fresh tasting. i didnt think coffee was very stable over time, like this concentrate must be real fresh or else they know something about coffee i dont (which i am sure is the case!), but there is nothing but fresh coffee here, nothing stale about it. the coffee is well bitter and has a lot of roast too, something i didnt get a ton of from the grain profile in the base beer, so this kinds of rounds out the dark grain spectrum a little bit without running over the dried fruity and cocoa notes that make this original. it seems to blend into the beer real well too, no striated glass with more coffee in the bottom, its uniform and beautiful. this beer has me so keen to try this kopplins coffee on its own, ive heard nothing but rave reviews of it. i like this edition at least as much as i like the nice on its own without it, something a little different here, this is great beer overall, one of the best they had in here when i visited!

Pours a very dark brown colour. Smells like roasted malts, coffee, and sweet malts. Tastes like slightly sweet malts, green coffee beans, and a little fruity finish.
