Look: red berry color in a Gose glass with a 4F head.

Nice aroma of berries and spice.

MF: light body, perhaps lighter than other Goses I’ve tasted..

Taste follows the aroma: full berry and spice. The finish isn’t salty as in other Goses. I like this. Other Goses tend to emphasize the saltiness over the fruit taste.

Very enjoyable Gose.

Can has coriander and Himalayan salt on the front of the label just below lemon zest.
Moderate pour yields a 1/2 inch pink head over a reddish purple body with minimal lacing. As advertised, all adjuncts are noticeably present in aroma and flavor! Nice feel and overall, certainly a lot going on in this one, but it works pretty damn well. Cheers to our neighbors up north!

Really enjoyed this Gose from Collective Arts Brewing and of course, the can labelling is off the charts. This particular can featured artwork from Lior Shkedi of a DJ astronaut spinning in space. Pours a brilliant red with a nice pink head and smells of blackberry. With the three fruits noted, it was difficult to distinguish the specific flavours as I found blackberry took the nose and tongue. Nice and sour hitting the tongue, perhaps some of that lemon zest helping to bolster the Gose namesake. Leaves a fruity sourness on the tongue which was nice. Overall definitely recommend!

Pared this bad boy with Michio Kaku's The Future of Humanity on audiobook.

Appearance - Pours a rich berry red/purple with two fingers of pink head. Colour is reminiscent of beet juice.

Smell - Blackberries, black currant, lemon and citrus zest, salty aroma, sweet and tart aromas.

Taste - Tart and jammy blackberries and black currant, followed by zingy lemon zest and touch of salt. Grainy malts and earthy/floral hops. Hint of coriander.

Mouthfeel - Medium bodied with moderate to high carbonation. Finishes dry and crisp with lingering tartness.

Overall - A brew that could have easily become to cloying, but the brewers did a great job on keep this light and fresh. Great summer sipper.

473ml can - one of the latest installments in their Collective Project/ series.

This beer pours a murky, very dark mauve colour, with three fingers of puffy, finely foamy, and yet fizzy strawberry pink head, which leaves a few instances of froopy mesa-esque pattern lace around the glass as it quickly blows off.

It smells of salted caramel, cranberry and blackberry compote, overripe lemon rind, some muddled earthy spiciness, faint estery yeast, and some well-understated leafy, weedy, and floral hop bitters. The taste is gritty and grainy pale malt, white saltine crackers, some black currant fruity astringency, musty stale lemons, still hard to parse spicy notes, and more wan earthy, herbal, and musky floral hoppiness.

The carbonation is adequate in its palate-mollifying frothiness, the body a so-so medium weight, and sort of smooth, as the yeast and fruity acridity maybe don't play so nice with the neighbourhood kids here, y'know? It finishes trending dry, the black berry fruit and crackery graininess the order of the lingering day.

Overall - yeah, this one comes across as a bit too full of adjuncts, even if said fruits would be just fine on their own. Not bad, but kind of bewildering at the same time. For some reason, I sense that this would go well mixed with 7-Up, or the like. I might just try that.

So it looks to be that Collective Arts is just out to have some fun with its Gose. They've laid down the basic style (hazy wheat with a sharp bite, spice, salt, various other bits) and dress it up with some manner of herbal or fruity goodness.

In this case, berry fruits and lemon. So you're up against a big fruity bouquet and flavour profile. I think you have to have your head wrapped around the basic elements of the style, because they'll shock you as a first-timer, and then decide from there if the particular mix works for you.

This one is pretty good, but I generally find berry mixes a little anonymous in character. The earlier guava gose was more interesting because the fruit was so pronounced and "true" I guess would be the word. And you can tell they're both cousins in Prophet and Nomads and CA other goses.

So if you like or can develop a taste for the style, just sit back and enjoy the experiment which will be in your face in just about any way it can be. These guys make good beer and look to be pretty fearless experimenters.

Goseanna.
