Collaboration with Magic Rock Brewing
This easy drinking Dry-Hopped Berliner Weisse was created with our good friends at Magic Rock Brewing from Huddersfield, UK. Refreshingly bright and pleasantly tart, with a distinct Orange notes from fresh orange zest added in the whirlpool and Mandarina Bavaria hops used in Dry Hopping.

A: The beer is crystal clear light yellow in color and has a moderate amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a finger high white head that settled down, consistently leaving a thin head covering the surface and lots of lacing down the sides of the glass.
S: Moderate aromas of lemons are present in the nose along with strong notes of lactobacillus.
T: The taste follows the smell and has flavors of lactobacillus and lemons along with a light to moderate amount of accompanying sourness.
M: It feels a bit more than light-bodied on the palate and is somewhat tart with some yogurt-like creaminess. There is a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This Berliner Weisse isn't as sour compared to others in the style and has a strong dose of lemons in the smell and taste. This would be an interesting beer to pair with food as it can cut through other flavors.

Appearance: Cloudy with two fingers of head that sustained well and kept at a half finger. The body is a fairly appealing yellow that produced some lacing.
Smell: Sour lemon dominates the nose with a touch of wheat malt a a slight touch of clove. I did not need warming to bring out a decent amount of potency.
Taste: It's like drinking lemonaid, but instead of sugary sweetness to go with it, I get a hint of Banana malt and a light dusting of floral hops at the end. Potent, almost a bit too much to be honest.
Mouthfeel: I'm normally a big fan of sour notes, but I honestly feel this one goes overboard. Nothing really restrains it very much apart from that light dust of hops that is just that, a wall of dust. That means it builds and builds it's sour acidic quality in the aftertaste until it becomes too much. There also isn't a lot in the way of transitioning because it's very basic in nature. The carbonation is well done, but it does a bit of disservice here, further promoting it's excess potency.
Drinkability: The sourness of the beer makes you think it's light bodied, and for the most part, it is. However, it's not as light as you might think it is as afterwards it did leave me feeling a bit heavier then expected. Refreshing? Absolutely but it wears out it's welcome way too fast.
Final Thoughts: I don't think I've had a Berliner Weiss that entirely agreed with him. Sour is fine, but something seems to always go south with me when wheat becomes to focus. I didn't think I'd fine a sour that was too sour for my liking, but here it is. In fact, I don't think it's that it's too sour, as I seem to recall Gosebuster was more potent. The difference there was though, it was a gose and had salt to restrain it's aftertaste. I'd still say give it a whirl, even though my rating may not come across as a ringing endorsement.
