A hazy yellow and straw gold coloration. Fluffy and whipped white foam cap has staying power. Lots of chunky lace.

The hops have a very grainy and earthy aroma right off. Peppery pineapple, orange rind, lemon zest and assorted old spice and herbal mix makes it a very interesting nose.

Not exactly sure which hop out of these three gives it the super spicy, lemon zest kick, but it's by far my favorite aspect in the hop flavor. It's really unique, which leads me to believe it's the El Dorado. Grainy AF! With tons of golden grainy flavors in the malt. Zesty earth kick is dramatic with some peppers and pineapple way down deep too.

A crispy and eventually juicy mouthfeel that really has a spicy, earthy bite unlike anything I've experienced before.

Altogether, it's a unique DIPA with really fun aspects that I'm personally really impressed with.

so it's ok but i'm not totally loving it. some flavor notes that just don't work for me
L: drinking from the can. the can is totally groovy. kind of like i'm tripping at the zoo.
S: smell is good. maybe a bit muted. slightly juicy - citrus, pineapple.
T: falling a bit flat for me. maybe it's "balanced" when I'm looking for some strong flavors. somewhat juicy, following the nose, a bit piney, a bit bitter but i'd prefer a commitment...
F: smooth, very lightly carbonated. eh.
O: wanted to like it but it lost me... trying to figure out if one of the hops doesn't really appeal to me but they all sound good.

Orange juice like pour - thick golden yellow with milky hint and a finger of white head.
Incredible on the nose - citrus, mango, pineapple - piney hops but oh so juicy.
Sweet citrus hits the palate with a pungent slightly bitter grapefruit rind, orange, pineapple - tropical and dank; resinous piney hops finishing with an earthy, spicy booziness.
Full bodied creamy mouthfeel - sweet but with pungent dankness, tropical fruit and a lasting spicy bittersweetness.

473 mL can from the LCBO; dated Nov 27 2020 and served slightly chilled.

Pours a hazy, pale golden-yellow colour, producing a quarter-inch cap of tight, foamy head that fizzles off within sixty seconds or so. A thin collar and a sparse spattering of lace last on, but the surface is otherwise barren - I reckon it looks just like the other Surround Sounds. I'm getting fresh pineapple, mango, apricot, grapefruit and orange on the nose, in addition to a floral, spicy, pine resiny hop note.

Like its predecessors, this is nothing less than a solid DIPA - I'm getting flavours of orange, mango, pineapple and grapefruit right off the bat, with notes of stone fruit and cantaloupe coming through shortly thereafter. Pithier towards the finish, with a fair bit of resiny, spicy hop bitterness strewn amidst lingering notes of syrupy mango and melon lingering into a slightly boozy aftertaste. Full-bodied, with middling carbonation levels that provide a gentle bite to this brew's smooth, pillowy-soft texture; pretty easy-drinking for 8.2%. It's yet another worthy effort from Ontario's most prolific brewer of IPAs.

Final Grade: 4.18, an A-. Surround Sound El Dorado isn't the best of the SS variants, but taken individually as a New England DIPA, it's still a very good beer. I enjoyed its mish-mash of citrus, tropical fruit and stone fruit flavours - pineapple and mango were the stand-outs, but this one also has a bit more of a pronounced resiny bitterness going on compared to its siblings, which might just be its main differentiating factor. I shouldn't even need to tell Canadian hopheads to pick up a Collective Arts pale ale, but I will anyway - buy this beer!

473 ml cans erved cold into a pint glass. LCBO purchase for $4.75 CDN. Canned November 27, 2020.

Appearance - Pours a very hazy yellowy golden brew with orange highlights. Lots of bubbles race to the top which is capped with a half finger of dense and reasonably long last white head.

Smell - Tons of tropical notes, mango and guava mostly with a healthy dose of pineapple and bits of melon. Nose seems to fade fairly quick.

Taste - Big juicy flavors, mango and guava with bitter grapefruit backing things up. Melon mixed in. Dense tasting beer. Sweet, bitter, sweet to close.

Mouthfeel - Big and fairly heavy bodied, carbonation is moderate and feels a touch syrupy. Booze is definitely present.

Overall - Another solid beer for the Surround Sound line-up, this one is a bit boozier and heavier hitting than the others so that knocks it's drinkability back. Definitely enjoyable, but prefer others in this series.
