Bier #2 during an Alewife/Bierman9 visit to Stone on 28JUL20. A 12oz pour was $7.00.
In my snifter was a very dark mahogany brew, almost opaque. Had a thin, creamy, beige head, with light lacing. Nose was mild toffee, caramel and some peat. Had a medium feel/smoothness and was medium-bodied.
Flvor had nice sweetness, with toasty malts, caramel, toffee, peat and subtle smoke. finish was clean but dry. Nice. Cheers!

Surprised after shelving a bottle for 2 years, after a long time love of scottish ales, and trying many while in Scotland last month - that this one is among my favorites!

The appearance was a glossy burnt orange to almost brown color with a slim almost finger’s worth of white foamy lacing after the head dissipated. The smell had all of the normal big smoky to peaty malts up front with subtle toffee and an even lighter caramel backbone. The taste was mainly sweet through the previously mentioned flavors. Slight smokey aftertaste. Semi-dry finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fair sessionable feel about it. Carbonation felt nice. Overall, I’d say this was a really nice scotch ale that I would have again.

Opaque brown with a bit of amber. Tan head that was more bubbly then creamy, dissipated rather quick. Wonderful aroma, strong caramel and malt. Sweet malt first, the caramel is more muted than the aroma. There is a bit of bitter that hits after the sweet. Does not really balance, the sweet hits then the bitter instead of balancing each other. Medium mouthfeel and the bitter does not linger, actually just a bit cloying. For only 7.2 you feel a touch of burn. Overall this is a really nice Scotch Ale.

From the 650 ml. bottle. Sampled on April 8, 2015. This is a different Scotch ale than their medal-winning Latigo.
Unfiltered brown pour with small, short-head.
The aroma has a luscious sweet and caramel forward character. A slight hint of booze even though it is only 7.2%. Also a little peat moss. But I found it to be inviting nonetheless.
The body is medium and on the creamy and smooth side.
The taste has the same level of sweet roasted malts as my nose expected but there is a definite earthy bitterness that pours in from behind and lingers briefly at the finale. I enjoyed it and would drink it again.
