Clear golden color. Average looks in the tulip glass with light amber color and a short-lived foam.

Starts out dry, no hint of malty sweetness, and just gets drier and more bitter. Flinty, dirty, and murky flavors. This is one of the bitterest-- no, for sure THE bitterest alleged Saison I've ever had. After a few sips it just gets more harsh and mineral.

This was surprising, since for all their variations a Saison is generally mellow and drinkable. This one has no hint of fruit or malt or the usual pleasures. Unfortunately I have to conclude it's undrinkable swill and I hope the brewers just had an off batch.

A quick tulip of saison at Jagged Mountain while passing through. The arrived crystal clear and very golden with a thin head. Yeast and fruity. Dry and peppy with green apple and orange. A little spice at the end but that wasn't the main event here. It was maltier than I would have liked. Still an OK attempt at a style that, in my opinion, is difficult to make well in the U.S.

spearhead saison is a fuller bodied saison that features a richer grain bill than most without compromising the characteristic yeast we know and love in the style. copper in color, a little hazy, and sporting less than an inch of patchy off white head that fades to light bubbles. the nose on it is a little sweet, caramel and/or red malts give it this sweetness, which actually works rather well with a mellow but distinct saison yeast that I do not immediately recognize. the flavor features the grains a lot more than the normal wheat based saison, although wheat is certainly part of the equation here, I think there is more. an earthy vibe as it finishes, seasonally appropriate and balanced well enough. what I don't love is the feel. its droopy, sagging, where I want my saison bright. needs more carbonation, and probably has a bit too much body. one glass was enough, especially at 7.5% abv, it catches you quick. I prefer their session saison to this one, but its not a bad beer for the saison lover.
