I've been bouncing back and forth between lagers and IPAs recently, but had not had a dark beer in a while, so when I saw a dark lager on tap at a local pub, it sounded like it would work really well to finish the meal off.
This beer pours a dark brown hue that features a reddish tint and a golden glow around the edges (kind of a kaleidoscope effect). The head is creamy and off white, thin but persistent. Carbonation is not visible due to the dark nature of the beer. 4/5 The aroma is fairly sweet with notes of toffee and light caramel and dark toasted bread. A bit of grain and grassiness also come through as well as just a hint of milk chocolate (mainly as the beer warms). 4.25/5 The flavor is essentially the aroma on the tongue with toffee, milk chocolate, toasted dark bread, and a grainy sweetness all coming through nice and strong with a light grassiness and a light earthy hoppiness rounding out the profile. Bitterness is mild and lingers very, very lightly. 4/5 This is a light bodied, lightly carbonated lager that is somewhat creamy but is mainly wetting and coating. 4/5 This dark lager is very good and works quite well with food (I can also see it working well without food). The flavors are very well crafted and brought out with the sweetness not being crazy high but still nice and noticeable. 4/5

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
